Interpreter Profile: David Hill

We are so proud of the work our interpreters do and their commitment to quality that we’d like to share their stories with you. We’ll be adding regular blog posts with profiles of individual interpreters – we hope you enjoy them! We’re pleased to introduce our first featured interpreter: David Hill.

My name is David Hill and I live on Florida’s space coast. Although I’ve been a professional Spanish interpreter for 4 years, I have been knocking down language barriers all of my life.

My grandmother came from Texas to Guatemala to visit us when I was 2 years old and I was always at her side, I’m told, facilitating her shopping trips and sightseeing trips.

There’s never been a time that I can remember, whether we were living in Central America, Mexico, Bolivia or in Argentina, that I wasn’t the one who travelled with the visitors as their guide and interpreter.

I think what I like best about my ability to facilitate communication between people of different languages and cultures is the opportunity to participate in situations and events that really matter to those involved.

When I was 9 years old there was a terrible earthquake in Guatemala City and many relief workers came from Canada, the U.S. and other countries to help. I remember being very proud to be useful in the relief efforts. I still feel that pride today when I can serve our customers in some of their most difficult times of life.

I applaud all of my colleagues in their efforts to continue providing excellent and verbatim renditions and join them in striving to better our skills through constant vocabulary research and exposure to the ever-evolving world of language. ¡Saludos!
